Darth Vader's lightsaber prop story: Once a Jedi Knight and a hero revered throughout the Republic, Anakin Skywalker forsakes all that he once held dear when he becomes the evil Sith apprentice, Darth Vader. Lured to the dark side by promises of absolute power, the fallen hero betrays his fellow Jedi, his friends and even his beloved Padme when he becomes the very enemy he once swore to defeat. Now, as a disciple of evil, Vader executes the Emperor's every command and annihilates all who stand in the way of his master's schemes. On the volcanic world of Mustafar, Vader confronts his former mentor and friend, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and is left for dead. When he arises from the fateful encounter, he finds himself more machine than man, encased in the signature black armor that will come to strike fear and terror throughout the galaxy.

Of all the lightsabers seen in the Star Wars saga, Darth Vader's has undergone the most change. Each time the prop has appeared in film, it has differed in detail. In Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, the prop department took previous versions of Vader's iconic weapon of ultimate evil and amalgamated them seamlessly into one. Machined from aluminum with accented copper and aluminum details, the lightsaber features a gloss black mid band and shroud that approximate the antique camera flash of the original classic trilogy prop. Hand grips, a stepped end cap, and a unique laser etched design in the control box top ensure that this version of Vader's weapon retains a familiar profile, while making it, once again, unique in its own right.
